The application of project management methodology to global product development is explored in this project, focusing on the growing imperatives of speed, flexibility, and market acceptance. Conventional project management methods are efficient at coordinating predefined tasks among dispersed participants, controlling development cost, and managing technical risk. In contrast, newer variations are more effective at promoting cross-functional collaboration, speeding time-to-market, and reducing market risk. These require project managers to be effective leaders, strategists, marketers and change agents. Successful projects act as engines for building global product development capability and driving product strategy. Finally important methods and processes are presented for selecting and adapting various methods to a given technology, market opportunity, and organization.

In this project, we will examine the communication processes engaged in by virtual project teams and their management. These virtual teams are using widely available groupware to communicate, work together, share documents, discuss ideas, and solve problems, designed and implemented a database. These teams will be managed by a geographically-distributed management team. The study will be analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively, from two perspectives working in, and managing, virtual teams using a framework that integrates virtual team dynamics and project management practices.

Cost-cutting disrupts daily work rhythms by dampening morale, particularly when head counts are cut. The heart of any business's strategy is efficiency and cost-cutting particularly when economic conditions are adverse. It is tough to ignore cost management software issues during times of economic instability for trimming the fat. Many businesses are seized of the growing cost base and their tactical response to squeeze their vendors.

Software engineering is an engineering branch associated with development of software and IT products using well-defined scientific principles, methods and procedures. The outcome of software engineering is an efficient and reliable software product. IT project management has wider scope than software engineering process as it involves communication, pre and post delivery support etc. This project report will provide us basic understanding and aspects of IT product, software design and development process, software project management and design complexities etc. At the end of the project we will be equipped with well understanding and aspects of IT software project management concepts.
